How I Get Rid Of Dry Skin On Legs

Does the skin on your legs feel dry and itchy? As we age, our skin naturally becomes dryer, but harsh soaps, cold air, low humidity, and indoor heating also contribute to the problem. A good skincare routine for our body is especially important in winter.  My body skincare routine aims to get rid of dry skin on my legs and keep them smooth all year round.

Cleanser

Good skincare starts with cleansing. I wash with mild body cleansers that don’t strip the skin of the natural oils and also look for products that contain some oils.

The Seaweed Company Hydrating Body Wash is one of my favorites.  It contains blue-green algae, neem, coconut and aloe vera oils, and 65 vitamins and minerals to hydrate and soften the skin. It’s made with natural ingredients, doesn’t contain parabens or sufates, and is cruelty-free.

Weleda Wild Rose Creamy Body Wash is another nice one that I use. I like that it’s formulated with the skin-loving ingredient Rosehip Seed Oil. This body cleanser is free from synthetic preservatives, fragrances, colorants, and mineral oils.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating the skin is the next step.  Removing the dead skin layers is essential because it helps moisturizers penetrate better.  I use an exfoliating towel like the Earth Therapeutics Hydro Exfoliating Towel several times a week.  The cloth is 3 feet long, so you can also clean your back by holding it at both ends. On the other days I use a natural bath sponge.  

Then every couple of weeks, I give my legs a resurfacing treatment with KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub with 10% AHA.  This product contains both physical and chemical exfoliators to deeply exfoliate and smooth skin.  It’s formulated with Glycolic and Lactic Acids, Pumice Micro-Crystals, and colloidal oatmeal. The KP Bump Eraser is vegan, cruelty, and gluten-free and comes in recyclable packaging.

Moisturize

Moisturizing my skin is a must. Creams and lotions work best when applied right after the shower or bath, while skin is still warm and a bit moist. This way, it helps prevent water loss from the surface of the skin. 

This winter, I’ve been loving The Seaweed Company Body Cream.  It contains seaweed with 65 vitamins and minerals, Hyaluronic acid, Shea butter, Argan Oil, and Aloe. The cream is made with natural ingredients and is free of sulfate, parabens, gluten, and cruelty-free.

Another wintertime favorite of mine is the Josie Maran Whipped Aragan Oil Body Butter. It’s whipped with argan and avocado oils, shea butter, fatty acids. The velvety texture melts into my skin.   This is also a clean product.

Finally, if you want to give your legs an nice finished look, Sally Airbrush Legs Leg Makeup works great.  I’ve used is for years.  It’s water resistant and won’t rub off.

Conclusion

Since I’ve given my legs the care they needed, I’ve seen a big improvement in the way they look and feel.  The dry flakiness is gone, and they feel much smoother.  I’m looking forward to summer already.  Do you have a favorite routine for getting rid of dry skin on your legs?  I’d love to hear about what’s working for you.
